Check what will be visible
An open front places more of the inner outfit on view than a fully closed design. The neckline, lower hem and sleeve openings can reveal other parts as you move. Try walking and sitting rather than deciding from a still mirror image. Choose an inner outfit you would feel comfortable showing in those positions.
If the outer cloth is sheer, consider coverage across the whole garment. A lining may cover only the body, while sleeves remain unlined. Ask the seller exactly where the lining extends.
Inner dress or coordinated separates?
A simple inner dress can create a continuous line under an open abaya. Separates offer flexibility when you already have comfortable trousers, skirts and tops. Neither is mandatory. Compare the neckline, sleeve length and hem with the abaya so the pieces work together rather than requiring constant adjustment.
Avoid assuming that a sleeveless inner dress meets all your preferences just because it is sold as an abaya layer. Check coverage when the outer sleeve moves or the front opens.
Think about the combined weight
Judge the complete outfit instead of the outer garment alone. A light abaya over several substantial layers may feel very different from the outfit you expected. If you need extra opacity, look for a planned inner layer rather than adding multiple items without checking their combined fit.
Consider whether the materials catch against each other when you move. A smooth appearance while standing does not guarantee that the layers fall back into place after sitting.
Coordinate colour in ordinary light
You can keep the inner and outer pieces close in colour or choose a contrast. Check them together where possible, because the same colour name can vary across fabrics. For an embroidered or patterned outer layer, a simpler base can make coordination easier. This is a styling option, not a rule about which colours a woman should wear.
Necklines, sleeves and hems
Look for a neckline that stays where you want it when you bend or reach. Check whether an inner sleeve bunches at the cuff and whether the lower layer extends beyond the abaya’s hem. A visible edge can be intentional, but make sure the lengths suit your footwear and movement.

Try a complete outfit before buying more
Start with one or two combinations and wear them through your normal routine. Note which layers you reach for again and what repeatedly needs adjusting. Then fill a specific gap if necessary.
